Hi everyone! Been a while since I've been around. Things have been hectic (as I'm sure they have been for all of you as well).
This is just an idea I had, and thought it was worth sharing here.
Artflow is a site that generates human portraits from text prompts: https://artflow.ai/
There have been countless "people generator" AI projects over the years, but I'm really impressed with how far they've come. This project in particular piqued my interest because the generated images are free, and can be used under a CC license that just requires a mention in the credits. This is potentially a very quick way to create character portraits for every major character in the game, as well as generic portraits for other encounters.
There are limitations;
-You can't generate the same character multiple times
-The wait time can be between 1-10 hours
-Generated images are small in resolution, however you can also use free AI image upscaling to enlarge them elsewhere
-It can take several attempts to generate a portrait that fits what you're seeking, especially when trying to keep the style consistent
-Prompts have to be very descriptive for good results, and human language is difficult for an AI to parse
-Accessories, such as glasses, don't seem to be supported
However, I think it would be very fitting to use them (even as placeholders). An upscaled image can be handed off to an artist for additions and finishing touches as well. Alternatively they can be great original reference material for complete future portraits down the line.
Give the site a try! Even if its just for fun I'd like to see what you come up with.

A couple more examples, the site does allow for more racial characteristics if you're specific in your prompt.
