Pteravores: How Do YOU Deal With Them?

The other night I was Flying around, sight-seeing a System without using a system map when I suddenly get the message:
" Pteravore is damaging the Ship!"

I long ago learned these creatures want one thing: Fuel.
I have Solar Armor on this ship, heading toward the Sun was Not an option ( I have shot them off my drones in the past; used Heretic's manipulator's weapon fire to blow them off my Hull )
I headed out to the Void on Auto Pilot as I watched my Ship Status Drop rapidly.....all systems offline, no fuel left in the reactor.... ( on a Drone it will go after ALL the fuel in the ship' hold, on my ships they just seems to drain the reactor.)
The Creature undocked and left me to die, I refueled and restarted my equipment .....but it does not always work out that well. It took alot of dying to practice.

You need to stop pteravores before they hit your ship. The easiest way to do so is to equip a Longreach autocannon (but not ICX missile defense -- that is too weak) and let it shoot the 'vores down. Shooting a weapon with wide coverage at their direction works too. Iocrym Fracture Cannon is ideal for this.

I like to sit back pick off the station with a Ares Warhammer and then let loose with the Ion Flame Cannon. Also make sure all of them are dead sometimes the station will stop sending them and you think your clear go in a little to fast and well your sucked dry(did it to me while escorting the Explorer.}

Yes, best strategy is blowing up the nest and hiding behind something closeby, or simply splurging and getting the autogun. (the pteracnium ore in the hives is almost as ludicrous as farming ferians, so I think taking time to attack pteravores is woth it.)

Except in Heretic, where I blow up the station then hide behind a manipulator, I lure big enemy ships like a phobos or deimos over them then just wait until the ptravores do their nice, helpful work and destroy my enemies, freeing me to loot them.

Speaking of luring, I lure them to any station or ship that I can lure to the center - missions or such.

It's actually possible to kill pteravore stations with a single 310A Aegis auton. You sacrifice them when the station blows (often, they won't be able to survive the death swarm)....but while they're painfully slow, it works.

1. A longreach autocannon or
2. Run like hell and hope for the best.

Since I first met these creatures, they killed me: I was in a system dominated by Ares, the Ringers were my only Haven : together we took on the Orthodoxy for a long time: I hit this nest, it must have been ready to blow before I found the Red LRS spot ;
not knowing exactly what it was, thinking it an Ares Outpost : I found it was not , docked with it.......
not a good idea.
since then, I have tried to feed them and make friends with them, like a teraton.....just long distance ......Ares Sandstorms seem Yummy

I believe they also enjoy xeno worldships and phobos dreanoughts.

I observed in the Heretic they feed longer on Iocryms. I wonder why?
It's survivable if you have a Hyperion Reactor but how about with a Nova?
They're rather cute though like killer starfishes.
