Thank you gentlemen for your advice; it has been well received. I will try to make a run for it, and purchase a better shield and particle weapon as soon as possible.

Too bad freighters don't have a built in omni-turret that works for any weapon installed there. That would even things up a bit. :)

No it wouldn't. It would make the freighter insanely overpowered in the later game and it wouldn't do a thing for its inability to outrun trouble in the early game.

Hehehehe omni fusionfire....

Yeah, no. That would not be balanced.

i skip shields and go for armor. i've used a class ii up to 2 systems past st. k with 4 plates of carbide carapace and 3 patcher arms. with this setup, i can keep my 50 mw for a long time and just save up money for the big stuff. the high hp, low regen shield equivalents don't work very well for the freighter.. i've noticed that even the mammoth 100 was having issues against later sung. my weapons are almost always an omni turbo and either a mark iii or a heavy slam cannon. i don't usually ditch the omni turbo until i can get an omni tev9 or even a omni ion.. that's just my style though.

right now I'm having arguably the best playthrough to date.

I'm piloting the freighter, and just got to sanctuary.
Right after St-K's I looted 4xWorldship armor from a sapiens compound. I ditched my pathetic shield. I'm also sporting a +Fast Dual flenser with cannon accelerator and my base cracker is a Mark III howitzer with the makayev blast enhancer AND the speedloader. It's all running off an enhanced 100mW reactor. I'm virtually indestructible, except for that time that I flew over top of a penitent shrine :( I lost one seg to that disaster but ordered 4 more from the first Traders station.

I haven't found any new bugs, but with all the new expansions of the systems why are ssEarthSpaceRedDwarf systems so unremarkable? 3 planets, a comet and a bunch of debris. I'm not sure if there is something planned for these systems but considering that red dwarfs have a low probability for harboring life due to their habital zone is incredibly close to the star the beings that created the stargate network must have had a reason to include them. Could it be due to the trillion year lifespan of red dwarfs?
Occasionally, when Lalande gets rolled (a red dwarf system) as the first node after Eridani, this can be a huge loss to the player that is trying to scrape together enough loot or mine some ore to buy their first upgrades.

Success in the Charon system! I ended up using everything which I mentioned earlier except that I changed my weapon to a Urak howitzer. I found that it could take out several Corsair I's when the bolts fragmented near them; took a few more shots to destroy Drakes and Viking IIs; and about four well placed shots to destroy the Corsair IIs, but it was worth it.
I chose the Urak howitzer since I could hit more enemies with it in the same amount of time vs the omni-particle cannon.

Aeonic: Nice avatar, is it from a new playership?

It's from a mod we're collaborating on. It's a ship that comes out of nowhere and kills you very dead. It's too big to be made a playership. It wouldn't fit through the arena gate.

Sweet charity; such a benign little ship in picture. Defeating it will be fun.

The term you're looking for is horribly beweaponed.

If you look at the larger render in Aeonic's art thread you'll see that it has not one, not two, not even six, but eight nasty weapon looking protrusions at the front. And four visible turrets on the wings.

To paraphrase Douglas Adams it is designed to make it clear that it has a right end and a wrong end, and that you're on the wrong end.

A very fun model to design a weapons loadout for.

Blasted unidentified items. How am I suppose to have fun with these things if I don't know what they are and that they exist!?

Would have been more fun before Atarlost went and dumbed it down. :P All in the name of "balance" and not being "overpowered". Thphpht.

You're supposed to equip a bunch of them and see if you can figure out any of them. Try it out! Explore!

i think im with atarlost and aeonic on the issues of unidentified items. it would be wonderful if this could be done sans installation.

oh, I meant in vanilla-T
I could of course just mod in the changes myself, and I probably will for TX2.
