Star Genesis has been dead for the longest time but I don't know how to solve the problem.
There seems to be some issue with the AI:

OR is it because I'm using old weapon effects?
I have no idea.
To reproduce, just start Star Genesis and play then you'll end up crashing.

Ok late to the party but IMO there should just be a tag that virtual items inherit that makes them not show on all dockscreen item lists. Then if you want the item to be shown you can just override the tag in the item XML so you can keep current virtual item functionality + show them when you want to.

I'm not sure kiting is such a big problem. To some extent, there need to be tactics that allow the player to beat enemies that ought to outmatch them. Good point. @PM: It's not constant drag, it's just lowering the speed of non-thrusting ships to a lower cruise speed so that turning around and shooting backwards means that enemies have a chance to get close to the player.
