I remembered (wrongly) Longzhus don't work for +Alien stuff, but turns out that modifier is checked only for devices, and +EnergyWeapon is the only restriction for weapons.

Interestingly enough when ever I attempt to use the fabricator I end up having issues like uh... being eated. :) Feeding it luxury foodstuffs helps. Hoarding them is a bit pricey, but worth getting a Plasma Archcannon or something. I'm talking about an epic 80+hours game in 1.03 and I've got a coup...
