Yet can pilot a spaceship? This is perfectly reasonable, your character does know how to use ROMS, Devices, Cubes and Barrels this knowledge does not extend to an encyclopaedic knowledge of labels - why should your character know "Codeslinger" (say) refers to a weapon optimization program any more ...

cap ships should require crew, they could be macro controlled at arms length and function like fuel, where you must have X tons of food and water for them Maybe crew can also function like devices. You can hire an experienced helmsman to help you turn your enormous battleship a bit faster. You can ...

Makes me think of the VATS system in Fallout 3... It's very much like that, stopping free motion gameplay to allow tactical combat in a genre that doesn't usually do that, except made for a top down 2D flight or space sim. Something like Triplanetary on a computer. Another good way to describe it. ...

Turn Based Combat...

Recently I discovered a neat Flash game called Steambirds. Here's the link to the game and a link to a review at TIG. I found the game so ridiculously addictive that I finished the entire thing in one sitting and then found myself wondering why more games don't use this amazing combat mechanic. So t...

Remember that scavenger nomads will not leave the system, so you still have the option of tracking him down and taking your stuff back.
This was much more satisfying than the mule option. There's stuff in that wreck I don't even remember shooting down. Thanks for both options though!

help a packrat

I just left some stuff in a station I'd blown up and when I came back it was gone. Is the only safe way to hang onto stuff to keep it in my cargo hold?

Just a note of caution... I enjoy this game a lot and I like coming to these forums to read the latest discussions, but I wanted to point out that most forums aren't nearly as difficult to get activated at as this one and don't let your name expire or become inactive nearly as quickly. If you want t...

Wow what an update! I haven't had a chance to play it much yet, but even the first system looks vastly different. Missions everywhere! Lots of new little stations! Chock full of extra flavor and atmosphere!

Ship's Log & Game Notes

Would anyone else like to have a way to take notes in the game? I could bring up Notepad and keep it running in the background, but I'd rather just have the game let me keep a tab on things I'd like to remember. If I find a good trade route, a good station, or if I have to leave loot behind somewher...

Nethack is still in development, but for the average player to realize that he'd have to play the game for years. It's so complicated and complete the way it is that each new feature added to it is just gravy. Put another way: Nethack is still growing, but the growth is negligible compared to what's...

I'd disagree with two of those points, Betelgeuse. Rogue-likes have a good 'cult' following, but I've never seen this game advertised on any Rogue-like website. I'd offer instead that the biggest reason folks don't come in droves is that it's actually really hard to find the website even if you're s...
